The Llama family
Meta's Llama models, which helped popularize open weights; since 2026 Meta has also released models under the Muse name.
Only versions we have a record for. Missing ones appear as records are added.
Llama began in February 2023 with LLaMA 1, shared only with vetted researchers for non-commercial research. Llama 2, that July, allowed commercial use, but under Meta's own licence rather than an open-source one.
In 2024 Llama 3, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 followed one another, widening the sizes (from 1B to 405B) and the uses (reading images, small models for phones). Llama 4, in April 2025, drew criticism for putting an unreleased version on a public leaderboard.
From 2026 Meta released models under a new name, Muse. The first, Muse Spark, kept its weights closed, but Muse Glimmer (Apache 2.0) in August and Muse Spark Open in October were again downloadable.
